On
a Mission
We at ILANTUS have been actively involved in social welfare activities since our inception. In the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change, a decision was made to focus on the area of education of underprivileged children to make a direct and beneficial contribution to our community.
SUKRUPA is a voluntary organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of underprivileged children living in slums. It provides them with education, health, hygiene & nutrition. It also encourages them to participate in sports, creative, cultural, vocational and recreational activities. SUKRUPA is striving to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance by providing these children with a healthy, happy and wholesome environment for their development.
Touched by its relentless pursuit, ILANTUS has decided to extend a helping hand to SUKRUPA in its mission.
The Roadblocks
When ILANTUS’ team first visited SUKRUPA, it was grappling for funds. While it had been receiving accolades for the good work it was doing, it lacked clarity on managing its finances. Although many organizations had contributed funds from time to time, there was no sustainable source of income for the long term.
ILANTUS Plays a Positive
Role
Despite its limited resources, ILANTUS wanted to provide support in whatever way possible. A number of opportunities were identified and almost the entire team of ILANTUS got involved:
| Mentoring |
 |
ILANTUS’ employees, including CEO Binod Singh, regularly visit SUKRUPA and mentor a group of children. Whether it is through story telling, teaching or just sharing experiences, the idea is to inculcate some good values in them. |
| Donations |
Apart from donating clothes, books etc. for these children, ILANTUS’ employees are contributing a part of their salaries to SUKRUPA on a regular basis. The donations helps SUKRUPA to pay their monthly rent for their Center. |
| Computer Classes |
 |
A group of employees visit SUKRUPA every Saturday and provide the children with computer classes. Apart from teaching basic computer skills for the younger kids, they work on Word, Excel and Powerpoint with the older kids. |
| Marketing |
ILANTUS is also guiding SUKRUPA in devising its marketing plan. A German , working at ILANTUS, provides support in its administration, fund raising and marketing. The objective is to help SUKRUPA becoming self-efficient on the long-term. |
| Sales Day at ILANTUS |
 |
Sales Days are organized on a regular basis in our Bangalore Office. Employees are able to buy handicrafts made buy SUKRUPA. Part of the NGOs projects costs are covered by the sale of their products.
|
| Technical Support |
Maintenance of computers, Internet and other technical support has been taken over by ILANTUS. |
| Events |
 |
ILANTUS also helps them in organizing fund raising events and supports their cultural events and activities. SUKRUPA children come to ILANTUS office to have dance performances and to present their organization. |
The Way Ahead
ILANTUS’ objective has been to empower SUKRUPA and enable it to create a regular source of funding for itself. It is heartening to see that even without any huge investments we have been able to create a positive impact. The organization is gradually gaining more confidence and the financial position has also begun to improve.
Through a cooperation like ours, people from both worlds learn from each other. For the employees a new perspective to a so far hidden world is opened and the underprivileged children are encouraged to seek opportunities in the Business World.
Binod Singh, CEO of ILANTUS, is convinced: “A cooperation like ours does not only help the NGO to become self-sufficient on the long-term, but also breaks down still existing social distinctions and barriers.”
ILANTUS vision
ILANTUS strongly believes that it is the willingness to help more than cash reserves that is essential. Our experience with SUKRUPA is an example of how a company with limited financial means can also make a difference to the lives of so many underprivileged children and add a value to our employees lives.
We hope this success story will encourage other SMBs to come forward and contribute in whatever little way they can.
If every SMB enterprise decides to adopt and nurture one voluntary organization, we can together make a huge impact.
